The port of Malaga has existed since the time of the Phoenicians; its location have never changed: it is situated at the foot of Mount Gibralfaro.
The city of Malaga has been inhabited by too many different cultures, this has allowed the port to be used by merchants of all times.
At the end of the 19th century the port had one of the most important remodeling in its history, which ended in the year 1987.
With this work it became possible to build the park of Malaga and the usage of larger boats since the water level had greater depth.
During the 20th century the port has had several extensions, and in the 21st century undergoes a huge modernization, thanks to that, now it is possible to accommodate big cruise ships and merchant ships, becoming like this one of the most important ports of Spain.
